Guess who's coming back to the big screenAs I'm wont to do, I was looking through the Hollywood Reporter's "In-Production Listings" (subscription required) to see what's currently being filmed and came across this little gem:

" The Fast and the Furious 3 Action

Original Film...

Shooting in Los Angeles, Mexico

Start February 20, 2008

Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, John Ortiz, Laz Alonso, Gal Gadot, Shea Whigham, Tego Calderon"

Village Roadshow: Running Illegal Blood Diamond Cash Cow?
Written by Micah Israel

Damning evidence as found on Village Roadshow's websiteAfter yesterday's post, I found the Gold Class website and I believe I'm on to something. Village Roadshow's website for Gold Class appears on the surface to be advertising their new upscale, luxury movie-watching experience, but something else much more sinister is occurring beneath the surface. The truth is an atom bomb that has yet to send shockwaves through the close-knit Hollywood community - and I've got the exclusive scoop (eat it, Drudge).

The Frills of a $35 Movie Ticket

Gold Class theaters - the premiere choice for rich daterapersIf you thought that "deluxe" cinemas sporting $20 movie ticket prices was a novel approach to movie theatre-going, Village Roadshow has something new in store for you. Gold Class theaters, opening in Chicago this year and around the country in the next five years, has got the kind of amenities to make your personal ego drool: "plush reserved seating, special parking privileges and upscale food and beverage offerings with seat-side waiter service", the Hollywood Reporter has got the scoop (warning: subscription required). If that's not enough to satisfy your elitest tendencies, dig this - these auditoriums feature a "40-seat-maximum patron capacity".

Just Because You Can Doesn't Mean You Should

That's pure sex right there - all of it

TV has a long and sordid history of regurgitating past programming back into our frenzied, feeding mouths. No, I'm not talking about reruns, I'm talking about new TV serials that are remakes of past TV shows. I'm talking about American Gladiators, Flash Gordon, Dr. Who, and of course the latest, Knight Rider. Now, rather than devolving into a fistfight over whether these TV shows should have been remade or not - the damage has already been done people, it's time to move one - I am instead going to focus this week's rant regarding a new, upcoming TV remake you may have not heard about yet...Beverly Hills 90210.

It's Time To Play - The Unoriginal Game!
Written by Micah Israel
Monday, 03 March 2008

It's fun to mock crappy films. Sometimes it's much too easy, but we typically forgive ourselves once we realize that the blame for crappness can be ultimately attributed to rich, Hollywood executive-types (this isn't always true, but it keeps the demons of sleeplessness away). Something I've become accustomed to doing with friends and family is describing an upcoming movie I'm excited about in terms of how it's similar to other movies that they know and like. It's a simple tactic, and one that's been used in Hollywood since forever to 1) Sell their new, original ideas and B) Cover up the fact that their new, original ideas really just aren't (which, of course, is what satisfies the former).

Anatomy of a Crappy Fight Flick
Written by Micah Israel

Sometimes crap is funnyThere are so many bad movies that come out, forcefully fed to us - raping our imaginations, if you will - that it becomes an important life skill to take crap and create our own entertainment, while blocking these demons from taking hold of our better selves. This, of course, is just a long-winded way to say that it's a good idea to make fun of stupid shit you see on the TV. The other day I saw a commercial for Never Back Down. After a few seconds, I realized that there was nothing good going on here, and that in the beginning scenes they were using a good actor, Djimon Hounsou, to mask the absolute crap that was to come.

Blu Ray Beats HD DVD!! | BREAKING: Pigs Fly...developing...
Written by Micah Israel
Thursday, 21 February 2008

Good riddanceWhile some things are a sure bet, the war between HD-DVD and Blu Ray wasn't. And despite Sony's particularly excellent track record with next generation formats *cough*, most believed they didn't have it in them to win. Well, today the skeptics were all proven wrong and Sony reigns victorious. Between the Giants winning and Sony laying the bitchsmack on Microsoft, I'm just going to guffaw anytime someone brings up something to be "for certain" this year.

Clearly, the first two months so far have proven to be bad for anyone but the underdog...still, I'm not going to hold my breath for Juno winning the Best Picture Oscar.

A Tale of Two Hobbits

ImageStop playing with my head, people. First, Sam Raimi was the most likely to direct The Hobbit...that is, if Sony doesn't tap his ass to ruin another Spiderman flick. Now it's Guillermo del Toro...but no contracts and nothing official until the writer's strike is over - while Cthulhu watches and waits.

The Dread Cthulhu is not one to be trifled with. But perhaps Guillermo enjoys the pure ecstasy that only comes from flouting the Great Old Ones.
